kcmacOct 20, 08:54 PMBut then I'd have to use Mail.
There are programs out there that can integrate at least three of these on a Mac, using the internal databases. I like the fact that I don't have to use one program for everything; it usually means a program that doesn't do any as well, and it limits what you can to to what that program offers. With them as seperate componets, I can use only iCal, or only Mail, or only AddressBook, depending on what I need. And since the database is open to other apps, I can get a different address book or whatever if I need it.
I don't see Apples apps as supposed to be the best in catagory. They are supposed to be enough for a casual user. If you want more, you can get programs that allow more. Being seperate is better for this, because if you are a casual user of one but a heavy user of another you can just get a better program for the one you are a heavy user of. (For instance, I'm a heavy user of email, so I have Mulberry. It integrates with Address Book, of which I'm a very light user. And I nearly don't use iCal at all, but I use it just enough to appreciate that it is there. Integrating the three would actually make them less useful to me, because I'd be tied to using them togther, and that's not how I use them.)
Use Outlook, if that's the best program for you. That's fine. Some people don't need that much, but appreciate having the ablity to use some of it on occasion.
Very well said.
I have tried many alternatives out there. Some good ideas exist for sure. But I always come back to the Apple stuff. I like the simplicity of iCal, Addressbook and Mail, and the way they work together. I expect I will like them even more with the new features that will surely occur with Leopard.

GanymedeSep 5, 02:10 PMNow I'm just getting teased by rumors. First it was the MBP that I want, then the media center thingy, now the mythic iPhone. Why do I follow this stuff when it just gets my hopes up? Ah well, I'll buy the phone if they release it.

AppleDroidApr 10, 09:46 PMThat title is.. interesting? Okay it's a giant pun (and a biblical reference zing!). I think it would be facinating to have the non-authorized version from people who worked for, or fell under, his reign at Apple.
I like both sides of stories, but maybe that's just me.

spazzcatApr 22, 01:04 PMThe price needs to be $.99 to $1.99 for each issue. I can get Men's Health in mailed to my house for $14.99 for 10 issues. Why does each iPad issue cost so much!

byulasfjazzDec 7, 12:56 PMOh how nice, instead of AT&T doing the work themselves they are having us do it for free.
**** you AT&T
nice buddy....
why hire someone?? when everyone can report things to them...(is it really that hard to report a problem when you have the app right there??) this way they can fix the network faster.( a few million people reporting or a crew of hundreds driving across the land) Instead of the dumb VERIZON guy walking around all year long saying CAN YOU HERE ME NOW? lol

HiVoltApr 10, 09:10 PMI'll pass. I don't really care. I am slowly moving away from Apple's products, the company is turning into Microsoft of the 90's.
I don't need to read an ass kissing book about Jobs.

Exactly! Those Blendtec blenders aren't cheap!
And for anyone "hatin" on this company, don't buy a Frap at Starbucks then, they're made with these blenders...

fiercetiger224Mar 28, 09:55 AMOoh- burning question - will the Elite 360 be as faulty as current 360's?
Which is why I'm now reconsidering buying a 360 Elite...If the same components are being used...I'm not getting one. Microsoft needs to get their quality up. It's one thing that Sony has gotten correct this generation. Their console is quiet, reliable, and most of all, full of power and potential. I think the tides are turning for Sony. Looks like I'll be getting a 360 when it drops down to $200...:o

ConsultantMar 29, 10:01 AMMaybe Nokia needs to change its slogan from "connecting people" to "suing Apple"
Or perhaps Nokia should create the next great thing instead of following Apple's footsteps? Oh that's right, they are now a Microsoft puppet OEM.
Nokia should focus on getting those windows mobile phones out on the market. Their dying smartphone market share has made them sink low.
Exactly.

AidenShawMay 4, 04:57 PMWhy did you have to remind me?
Because you were becoming irrationally exuberant - I thought that you needed some balance ;) .
I also wonder about this Intel diagram:
http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/intel-thunderbolt-3.jpg(click to enlarge)
If this applies to the Imac TBolt ports, then the two TBolt ports in fact share bandwidth from the single PCIe x4 connection. The combined max throughput of the two ports would be no better than that of a single TBolt port.
Another moot point, though, since no TBolt devices can be purchased.

EvangelionJul 12, 03:24 PMSheesh, that independent study is all you have to back up yourself.
So, you would like me to ignore FACTS, is that it? I should just pretend that the study does not exists?
You are claiming that Wikipedia is not accurate. I'm saying that according to independent study carried out by the Nature-magazine, Wikipedia IS accurate. You are disputing that claim. In that case I think that you need to go talk to Nature and tell them that they have no idea what they are talking about.
on the A380 article, the height was changed from 78ft 6in to 78ft 3in!
Oh the humanity! So which of those figures is the right one? If it's the latter, are you then complaining becuase they find errors and fix them?
Thank $DEITY Britannica has no errors in it! No sirree! Nevermind the fact that it DOES contain errors as well (in Natures comparison, they found 8 "major errors". 4 of those errors were in Wikipedia, 4 were in Britannica.
And there are plenty more. I read one about "Larry King's farting habit" that stayed up for a month.
Exception to the rule. That is what Nature said about those kind of entires in Wikipedia after their study. You do know that there are over a million articles in Wikipedia, and you are whining becuase you found one that has some weird comments in it? And if it stayed up for a month, why didn't you fix it? I have actually fixed two articles in Wikipedia (I don't remember the other, but the second was some grammar-fixes in English article about Finnish mythology.). Took me about 5 minutes in total.
And maybe he does have a farting-habit ;)?
Yes, many articles in Wikipedia a accurate, but minor things can be changed without notice.
Well, there is the history-function that provides information to what was change, when was it changed and who changed it. So it's not like the changes simply appear without anyone noticing. Each article has a detailed history that shows EXACTLY what has been changed.
And when I said the thing about the bums, I meant that I'd rather read what a person with a PhD in Botany has to say about the Brasilian Verbena over a Wikipaedist that just has googled the subject a few times.
What makes you think that the article in Wikipedia was not written by someone who has a PhD in Botany? "oh no, they are just bums who use Google!". Generalize much?
So, what do you have do say? Maybe quote that study few times again for me, please.
Oh, I dunno. Maybe YOU could just say "but anyone can edit it! They are just bums!" few more times? Nevermind that it's utterly pointless and dumb, but that's the only thing you seem to have to say.
"but.... anyone can edit it!"

mkrishnanOct 17, 11:01 AMIt's interesting how large the magnitude of disconnect between the planned purchase estimates and the actual marketshare is for Macs (e.g.. 17-18% of people planning to buy computers state they will get a Mac, but only 5-7% actually do). In contrast the numbers later for HP seem relatively close to their actual marketshare numbers.
They don't offer an interpretation, but one tempting one is that people who are very strongly considering getting a Mac get dissuaded as they get immediately close to purchase, to a much greater extent than PC buyers.
Kane.ElsonAug 7, 05:31 PMI just read the text transcript. I was sadly dissapointed that nothing I wanted got announced.
Even the things that I didn't really care about but would have been ultra cool to be mentioned didn't :(
Rt&DzineApr 11, 11:39 PMThe law seems discriminatory against women. What about ski masks or someone like Michael Jackson (when he was alive) and his black kerchief or when he covered his children's faces?
Under the law, any woman - French or foreign - walking on the street or in a park in France and wearing a face-concealing veil such as the niqab or burka can be stopped by police and given a fine.
EDIT: I just noticed the exceptions to the ban. The law definitely has an agenda.
EM87Mar 28, 01:57 AMYeah, except they forgot to include HD-DVD. :p
Microsoft is falling into Sony's little trap: they've got the advantage of making a profit because Sony's got a higher priced console, BUT Sony's also losing money for us consumers. Once everyone realizes that, and adds the prices up for the things the 360 is missing (such as wireless and HD-DVD), man does a PS3 seem like an incredible value. Not only that, the 1.6 update really kicks the PS3 up a notch in functionality. They've also got a greater variety of games coming out...We'll see how this turns out.
And really, I feel really sorry for the people that bought a 360 only a couple months ago...It's a shame that Microsoft has to be childish.
Smart ass:p Childish was probably the wrong word.
Also wouldn't Sony Computer Entertainment still be making a profit from PS2 console, software and accessory sales even though they loose money on every PS3?
morespce54Nov 17, 01:03 PMthat would be really great... :)
lordonuthinAug 26, 08:17 PMwell glad you got it figured out.
as for the folding apps, let me know what you tried, so i can help you get it working!
All is well now, I have a bigadv unit started on it as well as gpu folding. I took some fiddling around trying figure it out but it's cranking now, should see results soon. It did run one normal a3 unit in very quick time and the gpu is hitting about 14k ppd which is slow :p but I think the cpu is hogging all it's cycles.
I'll need to figure out how to adjust things to get them both running at best speed. And when the weather gets cooler I can try oc'ing this rig as well as the other 2 rigs.
